App Review: World Geography Game

by M. J. Joachim

Much more of a flashcard type tutorial app than a game, this educational app isn’t all that fun to play. The format is rather clunky, and the interaction limited, because all you do is answer multiple choice questions based on highlighted portions on a map, cities, flags and other geographical points of study. From this perspective, you can learn a lot, memorizing all sorts of things globe related.

There are quests, but I’m not sure of the point of them, and there are treasure boxes to unlock when you answer enough questions correctly. There’s also an encyclopedia and hints to help you look things up, or solve the answers to the questions respectively. It’s all well and good, and I’m actually learning a lot of new things by playing with this app.

The game notion of it is sort of lost on me, but geography teachers should take note and use it to their advantage, because this app will help their students learn their maps, cities, flags and more. It’s actually a very handy tool for anyone who needs or wants to know more about geography, but it’s definitely not something I would consider a game.

May the best geographer win.

This is M. J. wishing you and yours well.
