Book Review: The 7-Day Prayer Warrior Experience by Stormie Omartian

by M. J. Joachim

I suppose if you want to start a new religious fanatic cult, this might be one way to go about it. Tell people to put on the godly armor, then ask them to get connected if they need spiritual assistance. Give them every opportunity to follow you, websites, Facebook, Twitter, then quote a bunch of Scripture and tell people they need to pray and reflect on the Bible more. We all need to do that, which is one reason this book doesn’t stand out. A few Bible verses, reflections and prayers does not salvation make.

Stormie is a book publisher and public speaker. Her venue is Christianity, and I’m willing to bet she makes good money at it. Not willing to judge, but I tend to exercise caution when someone says they can save my soul if I buy their book. Perhaps that’s a little harsh, but this book lacked substance and for the price, we all should expect a lot more, especially when it comes to our spirituality and people preaching to us on how to get closer to God.

Call me crazy, but I like to exercise discernment when I entrust my soul and prayer life to other people. We’re all in this together, and if we all need to take the journey and build our relationship with God, it’s probably a good idea to scrutinize anyone who tells us they can make it that much easier on us. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and all that, many a preacher has duped more than a few people, while lining their pockets just the same. From a book standpoint, this one didn’t cut it. The bar is high for those preaching lofty values and promising heavenly rewards. This is as it should be, because God alone knows the heart of each man, woman and child He created.

On a wing and a prayer, God bless you!
